Philosophy of Life

Live in the splash zone. That’s my motto or philosophy of life. Whatever you want to call it. I came up with it when I was at an aquarium watching a dolphin show.

I saw this young boy who was so excited to be there. I didn’t think he could get any happier until he saw that you could sit in the splash zone. He tugged his mother’s hand leading her over to the seats. She shook her head and lead him to higher and dryer seats above. She didn’t catch the look on his face but I did. That look and the way he looked longingly back on his way up caught me off guard. I could feel his disappointment. All through the show, I couldn’t forget about the boy. Every scream of delight and laughter from the splash zone was like an amplifier projecting how much fun those kids were having. If i felt like that, i could only imagine what he was feeling. Right about when the show was ending, it hit me.

Live as if you were in the splash zone.

What is this life but a series of moments fleeting by? Make those moments count. Do things you want to do but also do those things you don't really want to do. Especially do them if someone you know really wants to do them. You may find the experience to be better than you were imaging. "Happiness is only real when shared." That's one of the greatest movie quotes (Into the Wild) for the sheer fact of how truthful it is.

Don’t spend time considering how wet you’ll get. You’ll dry in no time i bet. But will that moment to be spontaneous and zestful ever come back? Can you relive something that’s gone by? No, none of us can. But we can strive to live in the splash zone and accept whatever splashes our way.

Splash Zone

Do you ever wonder the secrets to life?
Why things work out the way they do?
Why some people shine on despite their strife?
It's a simple thing you must do

Live in the splash zone my friend
Don't worry about how wet you'll get.
This is the point I'm trying to send
You will dry in no time I bet
But can you go back and change things?
Can you watch the sun after it sets?

You only have this one try
One attempt at this thing called life
So spread your wings and fly high
But don't be wary to sit up close
Embrace the splashes life brings
It might be better than you're imagining.

I hope you to see you later in the zone
Down where a dry seat isn't guaranteed
Lets show others who don't
Just what they're missing
When they insist to climb higher
To seats above that are dryer
